Popular Courses In India for Nepali Students

Every year thousands of students have been traveling to various countries across the world for the higher education. People have kept the desire to get foreign degrees for their successful career. Nepali students have reached to almost 64 different countries for their higher education. USA, UK, Germany, Australia, China are the popular destination abroad. But India has been most popular destination among others.

India continues to be most preferred education destination for Nepali students from many years. Nepali Students have been travelling to India from hundreds of years for education. Apart from proximity to Nepal and affordable tuition fees, the truth that both the countries share much the same culture makes parents feel that it is a safe place to go for their children’s college education. Nepali students also prefer India as they do not need to fulfill much many formalities of different tests and visa processing in order to go to India for higher education. There’s been enormous progress in the Indian Education System within the last few decades. India has been able to establish itself like a leading education hub in Asia as India has made huge investment in research, laying concentrate on an educated workforce having persistence for lifelong learning. Every year almost ten thousand students wish to study engineering in Nepal. Unfortunately, colleges in Nepal cannot enroll all those students. Nepalese engineering colleges can only enroll almost four thousand students in one academic session. This situation makes neighboring India as natural and affordable choice to many of those students who don’t get chance to enroll in Nepalese college. India has flourished in the area of engineering and information technology in last two decades. They have developed the world class courses in engineering and information technology.  Many Indian universities have close relationships with many multinational companies and other industries, which gives students with experience of practical elements of courses and enhances the opportunity of job placement in the leading companies of world. These both management courses are taught to attune practical and theoretical skills in students. These courses enhance a student’s leadership skills through precise training, assignments, reports, and presentation and group projects, all in order to build skills which will be crucial in the real world business situation. These management courses are specially designed to install the entrepreneurship attitude in the students to enable them to start and run business of their own after completing their university education. India is additionally an attractive place for other management courses like Hotel and hospitality management, travel and tourism management etc. The price for the management courses is almost similar as in Nepal. Normal price for four years bachelor’s in management course cost over one million and two years masters’ course cost around five hundred thousand rupees.

Nursing and medical courses:

From back few years the attraction for medical profession has rapidly increased in Nepal. Especially, girls are very much to develop their career in nursing profession. As Nepalese institution cannot accommodate the entire prospective candidate for nursing education, so many are going to India to fulfill their dream of pursing career in nursing profession.

Nursing courses in India began in late 1800’s. Ever since then, they have got grown in number and quality. Wide variety of courses in nursing studies are available in India like  Medical Surgical Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing etc. along with nursing Bachelor in medical lab technology and courses on physiotherapy are also attracting many students who wish to pursue their career in medical profession.  Bangalore is the popular southern city of India for medical courses like nursing and other. Typically, students pay around seven hundred thousand to one million rupees including room and board to complete a nursing or other medical related four years course.


Thus, India being neighboring country, it has attracted thousands of Nepali students due to its open boarder, similar culture, and world class courses, advance ultra-modern educational infrastructure and prospective job career in international companies.

After SLC : Making Right Choice for Brighter Future

Like previous years also, this year also hundreds of thousand students are ecstatic for finally finishing his or her School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examinations, dubbed as the iron gate of the school life of any students.  All students have toiled a lot before the SLC exam for doing best in the exam. Now all those students have got plenty of time for them. Students have almost three months of leisure until the SLC results are announced. Many students have already prepared a long wish list for these three months including travelling, engaging in extracurricular activities, taking training and many more.
Though these three months is a leisure time for all students, but they should not ignore the fact that they will be entering to completely new world after they pass SLC exam. The transition from the school education to the high school education is a vital part of the life of any students, since it is the period when students enter into adulthood from young age and enjoy the joy of independence. Precisely what is crucial concerning this phase is that it’s a time when students are deciding who they are, what they do well and what they will do when they graduate.  Through these years in high school, students acquire almost all of the required skills, knowledge and power for his or her overall development. Additionally it is a period when they also discover their defects and weakness and make an effort to overcome it. For all these reasons, it is vital that students should think properly about their future during these three months of gap between SLC exam and its result publication and make a good choice for their bright future.

Computer Training:

Enrolling in the different kinds of courses related to computer is a great option for the students. There are many options of courses for students. These computer courses are not necessary for all, but the students who have not studied computers in school or students having interest in computer can enroll in these training. Computer basics, diploma, Webpage designing & development, programming, office package, graphics, animation etc. are some popular courses among the SLC students. They can choose any of these courses based upon their interest.

Language Course:

There are many students who love to learn and speak foreign language. Students can enroll for language classes if they are interested. Students who are weak at English can join English language course. Other students can choose the language of their choice like English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean etc. similarly, students planning to stead abroad can also take the language course of the respective country they are applying for. Learning new language is very nice choice for the students for whole life.

Professional Training:

Students can also enroll themselves for some kind of professional training during this leisure time. There are many institutes providing professional training in various fields. Some the popular professional training courses are mobile repairing, computer and laptop repairing, cooking, waiter training, Batista, hotel management training etc. Student taking these professional training can start earning money for their high school after completing these training  while studying in the plus two too

It is always better to learn something new rather than staying at home idle and wasting the precious time that can be utilized to prepare the students for their bright future. SLC Exam & it's Importance

SLC (School Leaving Certificate) examination is the exam taken by Nepal Government board every year for the students studying grade ten. SLC examination is given very high importance in our Nepalese society. SLC examination is only a small exam taken in Nepalese education system. But also it is very highly talked and seriously taken by majority of students and their parents too.

Many reasons can be found for giving this high importance to SLC exam. If we go on looking for the facts, only nearly 25 % of total population of our country has passed this SLC exam. Seeing this data, we can guess how important this SLC exam is in our country. Similarly, after a student’s passes SLC exam, he is qualified to enroll in high schools. Those students who passes SLC exam gets more freedom from family, society than that of he was getting in his school life. Students who are qualified to attend in SLC examination also gets chance to become the bonfire citizen of the country.

Likewise, exploring the next reason for the much importance of SLC exam in our country, i realized that, once a student passes SLC exam, he gets chance to realize his inner strength and qualities using which he can decide what to do in the future. He becomes qualified to decide his career goal and future life.


Last but not the least, SLC exam is the first exam, which is noticed while you apply for your higher education or apply for any kind of jobs in the student’s life. Beside these above mentioned reasons, SLC exam is given very high importance by the people in our country.

Education System of Nepal

Education in Nepal from the elementary school to the university level has been demonstrated from the very initiation on the Indian framework, which is thus the legacy of the old British Rule. Nepal has been following three tier seventeen year education system, allocating ten years to school education, two years to intermediate, 3 years to bachelors and remaining 2 years to masters.
The current education system of Nepal, which is as listed below:

  1. Pre-School Education
  2. School Education
  3. Higher Education


1. Pre-School Education;
Pre –School education is being undertaken in different names like Montessori, kindergarten etc. Whatever the name be, these pre-school familiarize the students with alphabets and prepare them for school education. Pre-school education is broadly divided as Nursery, lower kindergarten (LKG), and upper kindergarten (UKG). This pre-school education is not a formal and compulsory education in Nepalese education system.

2. School Education:
Formal education starts from the school education which officially spans a period of 12 years. The classes starts from class one to class twelve. But there is misconception in Nepalese society that school education ends at grade ten after SLC exam, which is not true. Only students passing class 12 exam are awarded with formal certificate of completion of school education. The core subjects taught in school education are Nepali, English, Math’s, Social Studies, Science and few extra subject that makes students informed about various aspects of life.

3. Higher education:
In Nepalese education system, higher education constitute of Bachelor’s degree or undergraduate, Masters or graduate degree, M. Phil or postgraduate degree and Ph.D. or doctoral degree. A student can choose among different field of study like social sciences, management, education, health and medicine, agriculture, law, science and technology, engineering etc.  As per their interest.


Nepali students have been facing comparative disadvantage in their academic and professional career advancement not to mention in the regional or international fields even in their home country. In this manner, with a specific end goal to make the Nepali education framework more competitive and compatible, approach and structural changes were made and step by step actualized.   Hope soon we can see the concert changes in education system of Nepal

New Grading System in SLC Exam

Beginning from the academic session of 2072 BS, Government of Nepal is all set to introduce new grading system in the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination. This new, extensive, scientific and international standard grading system will replace old grading system based on the “PASS” or “FAIL” category of SLC examinees.

After long discussion with the stakeholders, Government of Nepal decided that no students should be categorized as failed in SLC examination. According to the new grading system, all the SLC examinees from academic session 2072 BS will be graded according to their performance in exam under six categories as mentioned below:

A+:
 This “A+” grade will be awarded to that outstanding student who achieves more than 90 % of marks in the SLC exam. Their result will be rated as “DISTINCTION”.

A: 
This “A” grade will be awarded to those students who are able to get the marks between 80 % to 89 % in the SLC examination. This “A” grade result will be rated as “EXCELLENT”.

B: 
This “B” grade will be given to those students achieving marks between 60 % to 79% in the SLC examination. This grade is equal to First Division as per old grading system. This “B” grade result will be rated as “VERY GOOD”.

C: 
This “C” grade will be awarded to those students securing marks between 40% to 59% in SLC examination. This “C” grade result will be rated as “GOOD”.

D: 
This “D” grade result will be awarded to those students whose marks range between 25% to 39 % in SLC examination. This “D” grade result will be rated as “WEAK”.


E: 
This “E” grade result will be awarded to the students whose marks range below 25% in the SLC examination. This “E” grade result will be rated as “VERY WEAK”.


This new SLC examination grading system is being implemented hoping to achieve some positive improvement in the pass percentage. This new grading system is also expected to motivate poor performing students through ending their fear of becoming fail in the SLC examination.
