Beginning from the academic session of 2072 BS, Government
of Nepal is all set to introduce new grading system in the School Leaving
Certificate (SLC) examination. This new, extensive, scientific and
international standard grading system will replace old grading system based on
the “PASS” or “FAIL” category of SLC examinees.
After long discussion with the stakeholders, Government of Nepal
decided that no students should be categorized as failed in SLC examination.
According to the new grading system, all the SLC examinees from academic
session 2072 BS will be graded according to their performance in exam under six
categories as mentioned below:
A+:
This “A+” grade will be awarded to that outstanding
student who achieves more than 90 % of marks in the SLC exam. Their result will
be rated as “DISTINCTION”.
A:
This “A” grade will be awarded to those students who are
able to get the marks between 80 % to 89 % in the SLC examination. This “A”
grade result will be rated as “EXCELLENT”.
B:
This “B” grade will be given to those students achieving
marks between 60 % to 79% in the SLC examination. This grade is equal to First
Division as per old grading system. This “B” grade result will be rated as “VERY
GOOD”.
C:
This “C” grade will be awarded to those students securing
marks between 40% to 59% in SLC examination. This “C” grade result will be
rated as “GOOD”.
D:
This “D” grade result will be awarded to those students
whose marks range between 25% to 39 % in SLC examination. This “D” grade result
will be rated as “WEAK”.
E:
This “E” grade result will be awarded to the students
whose marks range below 25% in the SLC examination. This “E” grade result will
be rated as “VERY WEAK”.
This new SLC examination grading system is being implemented
hoping to achieve some positive improvement in the pass percentage. This new
grading system is also expected to motivate poor performing students through
ending their fear of becoming fail in the SLC examination.
