  • Tribhuvan University:

Tribhuvan University (TU) is the  public university established in 1959 AD. It is the oldest university among other universities in Nepal. Tribhuvan University offers about 4000 different courses in undergraduate and postgraduate program. It also provides courses on M. Phil and PH.D degree. It has 85 integral colleges and more than 600 affiliated colleges throughout the country. Based on the enrollment, it has become tenth largest university in the world.

Tribhuvan University being owned by the government, it is comparatively less expensive than other private universities. Tribhuvan University has been committed and dedicated in making itself as a source and center of quality education to set up a culture of learning in the country and to promote the national and global peace since its establishment.  


  • Pokhara University:


Pokhara University is a fifth university of Nepal established in the year 1996 AD. This university was established as a part of the government policy to improve the access of the students to higher education. There are 49 affiliated institution running different courses from Pokhara University in Bachelor’s, Master’s, and M. Phil and PH.D degree program. The entire curriculum for its courses is developed on semester system.

Pokhara University is a non-profit autonomous institution which is partly funded by the government and partly by the revenue generated from its affiliated colleges and students. Pokhara University has been successfully running its different programs in private participation


  • Kathmandu University:

Kathmandu University is the third oldest university. It is an independent, non-governmental, public institution. It was established in 1991 in Dhulikhel, about 35 Km east of capital Kathmandu. Kathmandu University was established with motto “Quality Education for Leadership”.  Kathmandu provides undergraduate, postgraduate, M. Phil and PH.D programs in the field of science, engineering, management, arts, education, and medical sciences.

Kathmandu University is first privately managed public educational institution of higher education in Nepal. This Kathmandu University is popular among the students for their higher education. This university is comparatively expensive in comparison to other university of Nepal. Kathmandu University has tied up and kept close relationship with different foreign universities around the world for enhancing the quality of education.



  • Purbanchal University:

Purbanchal University is popular public university situated in Biratnagar. Purbanchal University was established in 1993 AD. It is situated in economic centre of Nepal, Biratnagar. The establishment of Purbanchal University in 1998 was visualized as an extraordinary endeavour by the Government of Nepal to create an academic "centre of excellence" in the Eastern Development Region of Nepal.

At present, the university has broadly identified Industry-Technology, Agriculture-Forestry, Environment- Rural-Cultural Subsistence and Sustainable Development as specific areas of “Academic Excellence”. Due to various reasons, mainly strikes called by various political parties in Terai, the university struggled to maintain its academic calendar. However, it has improved a lot in the later period. Many of its programs are running as stipulated by the academic calendar of the university.


  • Nepal Sanskrit University:

Nepal Sanskrit University is one and only university teaching Sanskrit education in the college level in Nepal. It was established in 1986 AD being inspired by the long unbroken tradition of Sanskrit in Nepal. This university offers intermediate, Bachelor, masters and doctoral courses in classical and modern subjects.  This university has 12 constituent and 13 affiliated campuses across the country.

 
Nepal Sanskrit University was established as an autonomous institution for teaching and for research of Sanskrit field at various levels. Another motto of establishment of this university is top systematize Sanskrit education up to the highest level in the country. This Nepal Sanskrit university has helped to preserve and promote Sanskrit education in different sectors in Nepal.
